Apple confirms iPad will launch in the UK in April Apple today confirmed that its innovative new touch screen PC will launch in the UK in April. The official line is that it will debut in the US on  April 3, for Wi-Fi models and in late April for Wi-Fi + 3G models. All models will be available in late April in a number of countries including the UK.

There's still no details on pricing for the UK, though US models will start at $499.

"iPad is something completely new," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We're excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before."

The product will launch with 12 new dedicated iPad apps, though it is compatible with a further 150,00 apps that have been developed for the iPhone. Apple added that 'Developers are already creating exciting new apps designed for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch interface, large screen and high-quality graphics.'

The new iBooks app for iPad includes Apple's new iBookstore, which will feature books from both major and independent publishers including Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan Publishers, Penguin Group and Simon & Schuster.

Apple hasn't given any more detail about publications that have been designed for the iPad, though it is an open secret that it has been working several major magazine publishers including Hachette and Conde Nast.
